Stieg Larsson (1954-2004)

Larsson introduced his emotionally scarred hacker heroine, Lisbeth Salander, in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (U.S. 2008), which he expected to be the first of 10 books in his "Millenium" series. He died in 2004 after completing three, all published posthumously. They include The Girl Who Played With Fire (2009) and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (2010).

The Swedish film production of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, with actress Noomi Rapace playing Lisbeth, reached U.S. cinemas in 2010. Columbia Pictures has bought the rights to make a Hollywood version, with screenplay by Steve Zaillian and David Fincher directing.
